Destiny to Introduce Micro-transactions For Emotes
In an unexpected move, Bungie have announced that micro-transactions will be coming to Destiny on October 13th.
Now hold on! This isn’t exclusive quests or Crucible content locked behind a paywall! No, the new content on offer behind these micro-transactions are… some new emotes, if you like that sort of thing.
In an update posted on Bungie.Net, community manager DeeJ detailed how this update, which sees the return of Tess Everis to the Tower, affects players:
“Initially, Tess will offer eighteen brand new emotes. Like the trio of emotes offered via The Taken King Collector’s Edition, these emotes are completely optional, and won’t impact the action game in any way.
“To acquire these items, you’ll first need to pick up some ‘Silver’, a new in-game currency that will be available for purchase through the store associated with your console.”
DeeJ goes on to say that you’ll never be forced to buy anything that Tess is selling, and that the reason behind this move is to “bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year”. Finally, you’ll get some Silver for free to buy some emotes.
So what do you guys think? Micro-transactions are hated at the best of times, but the content on offer here couldn’t be more optional. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages for more news like this!
