Rockstar Games Not Focusing on GTA V Story DLC

Rockstar Games normally has a pattern when it comes to the Grand Theft Auto games being released. First they release the games and the a couple of months or a year down the road they release story driven downloadable content. But when it comes to Grand Theft Auto V this is not the case, as we learnt from an IGN article talking directly to Rockstar Games. Back in April last year Rockstar Games teased us about a very exciting story mode DLC. Here is what was said:
“And later this year, look for even more additions to both Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto V, including more holiday-themed updates, some very exciting Story Mode DLC and much more”.
But as we know now that story mode DLC never turned up. We now know why this story mode DLC failed to appear thanks to IGN. Rockstar North’s game director, Imran Sarwar confirmed to IGN that Rockstar Games focus is now not on the story mode DLC, but on GTA Online instead.
“Right now our focus is on GTA Online which has exceeded our expectations,” Sarwar said. “We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto 5 focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity.
“The community we’ve been able to foster is massive, growing each day and we have so many ideas that have yet to make it into the game.”
GTA Online has been enormously profitable for Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar’s parent company). GTA Online was the single largest source of profit for the parent company Take-Two Interactive during its last financial quarter. Rockstar’s focus on GTA Online only is understandable giving how profitable it is. But if you loved GTA IV’s additional story content then you might have a long wait than originally thought, due to this new revelation that they are focusing on GTA Online instead.
Incase you missed it, Tuesday Rockstar Games released Freemode Events Update for GTA Online. That update contain over 200 new freemode events to play in GTA Online, also released was two new adversary modes and the Rockstar Editor for Grand Theft Auto V and Online. Don’t forget to tell us your thoughts and opinions on this news. Personally I am sad that we won’t be receiving story mode DLC anytime soon, I loved GTA IV’s additional story content when it came out!
