Drop Zone, the “King of the Hill” of Star Wars Battlefront
Star Wars Battlefront. King of the hill. Please tell me how it could get any better than this? Star Wars Battlefront comes with a bunch of different game modes, one of them being the king of the hill-like Drop Zone.
In Drop Zone, the sky is riddled with drop pods and it’s up to your team to secure them. It’s an 8 vs 8 match between the Rebels and the Empire where the main objective is to capture 5 of these pods, or hold a majority of them after the 10 min marker is passed. If a pod goes contested for a long time, switching ownership constantly, the game will drop another pod to break the stalemate.
“This goes hand in hand with our design philosophy behind many of the game modes in Star Wars Battlefront,” Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall explains. “We’re promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn’t really pay off.”
Once a pod is claimed it will start opening, offering Power Pickups. However, when this happens, another pod will drop somewhere else, making you have to decide wether to wait for it to open or run off and claim the new one.
“Playing Drop Zone on the Swamp Crash Site on Endor is a personal favorite. The map has a couple of nice choke points but is overall very free-flowing and hectic, as enemies can attack from anywhere on that level,” says Brännvall. “The fight takes place around a crashed GR-75 transport ship with containers from the craft strewn across the landscape, and there’s one section with a waterfall overlooked by an Ewok village, where you have to jump down into the pool below in order to claim the pod, hoping no one’s hiding in the trees above waiting to pick you off.”
Star Wars Battlefront hits the Xbox One on November 17th. Are you a Rebel or a loyal follower of the Empire? Leave your comments and thoughts down below.
