Winter is coming! Which for those who revel in the exciting avalanches of AAA games this means very good things. For others it’s apparently something alarming; to be honest I’ve not caught up with Game of Thrones enough to fully understand why it’s so bad (do they get stuck on a frosty Iron Throne?). Anyway, the line-up of games for the final quarter of 2015 is looking set bar any last-minute delays and already next week there are two major releases, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Mad Max. Looking forward to them? Let us know why in the comments!
Before heading into the news we’ll quickly mention that we’re experimenting with a new format for the round up. Hurrah! We’re crazy like that, crazy and reckless.
This week was the week that saw Microsoft announce Xbox One backwards compatible games are going to start receiving updates; that Preview Program acceptances are going to start slowing down; Phil Spencer tweeting many, many tweets, on backwards compatibility, Cliff Bleszinski, MODs and more; and details on how you can find out some of the games that will be backwards compatible.
There’s been the announcement of the Rise of the Tomb Raider collector’s edition; alternative gameplay for Rise of the Tomb Raider; and the news that the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot will be available in September’s Games with Gold.
Bungie streamed more of The Taken King, the teaser for the stream showing a snippet of Nolan North as Ghost; we got to see some of the new weapons and gear that’ll be available with the expansion; the VIP rewards for Year One players were revealed; and Xur showed off some Year Two Exotic weapons and armour.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 held it’s beta; Turn 10 Studios announced that Forza Motorsport 6 has gone gold and will be getting a demo; EA released details of FIFA 16 regards their EA Access; and YouTube launched it’s Twitch-like streaming service “YouTube Gaming“.
As usual there’s been Deals with Gold, ending on 31st August; as well as a sale on ID@Xbox games. We’ve also taken a look at the games releasing in September; and, tying in with the avalanche we referred to at the opening, looked further ahead to the blockbusters releasing from now till the end of the year.
Until next time!
