Preview Members getting Dashboard Update in September
When Microsoft revealed at their briefing at Gamescom this Tuesday that Windows 10 was on its way to the Xbox One we got November as a launch time. Now however Mike Ybarra, head of platform engineering at Xbox, has announced that preview testers, the ones that have been able to try the backward compatibility so far, will get to early access to the Win10 upgrade in September, this to help Microsoft in the same way as with the BC program. This seems like a good idea since that will give Microsoft roughly 2 months to work out the last bugs and fixes before launching to the rest of the world later in November.
As stated on the briefing, this change will bring a “faster and easier experience” to your Xbox One, which is always a good thing.
With the change comes a bunch of new features such as a community section which includes the Activity Feed and Trending features. There’s also Watch section, containing the normal apps you use to view things such as Netflix, HBO etc.
The last and probably coolest thing is the implementation of Cortana in your Xbox One, to be used for help and quicker access to certain things such as party invites and recording. Cortana will however require a Kinect for the audio controls.
But hey, my dreams towards stepping into the shoes of Master Chief is one step closer with my very own Cortana.
