Pinball FX 2: Portal Table

Mind-bending pinball gameplay

Up for review today is the ‘Portal’ pinball table, the new addition to the epic Zen Studios ‘Pinball FX2′. This really has been a joy to play this table, fans of both ‘Portal’ and pinball will find things to love when playing.

From the off, the table has a very clean look to it with ramps and bumpers placed very well. Launch the ball from the computer screen and aim for the portal for the skill shot, it can be in three locations so use the power correctly. The main ramp is to the left which is the easiest to hit, then if you’re quick enough with the flipper you can hit it again to send the pinball down a different ramp.

To activate the missions you must aim for the ‘Test Chamber’ bumper located in the middle of the table near the top, if enough successful shots are made then the pixel screen changes to the mission selection. I really like the fact you can choose your mission instead of being told what to do, use the flipper button to select your choice and away you go.

All Test Chambers must be completed before the ‘GLaDOS Final Battle’ can be attempted. Though they may appear difficult at first, persistent experimentation is the hallmark of good science. Follow the instructions on the pixel screen and aim for the flashing shots. Any other successfully hit lanes will also add a small amount of time to that stage of the mode, so make your shots count.

Other ramps include unlocking the robots ‘ATLAS’ and ‘P-Body’, unlock both of them and you get a nice little all out shoot for your life game with extra pinballs.

I have had so much fun playing this, it really is fast and furious but enjoyable at the same time which is the basic ingredients for a table that is right up there with the best of them.
