2 game modes added to Mortal Kombat X
This week, Kombat Kast have revealed two additional game modes for Mortal Kombat 10, Kustom Kombat and Test Your Luck. Test Your Luck is a holdover from Mortal Kombat 9, and involves so-called “modifiers” that switch up gameplay by adding special effects. Players can have as many modifiers as they want in the match, but the modifiers themselves are randomly selected from a pool of over a hundred, and don’t necessarily affect players equally. Some of the modifiers – Double Damage, for example – help players out; others, like Curse of Sloth, aren’t quite as beneficial.
Kustom Kombat builds off of Test Your Luck by allowing players to choose the modifiers themselves. Both players can select two modifiers, for a total of four, and can specify who is affected by each option. If the slate of modifiers isn’t full, the computer will randomly fill in the blanks. Players can unlock modifiers for Kustom Kombat by playing through the game’s Living Towers. Unfortunately, Kustom Kombat is limited to local multiplayer only.
Kustom Kombat and Test Your Luck’s inclusion in Mortal Kombat X isn’t particularly surprising given that both modes were mentioned in Mortal Kombat X’s leaked Xbox One achievements list. Still, confirmation of the modes is welcome. Besides, if NetherRealm is announcing cool content like this when Mortal Kombat X is still a month away, it’s exciting to imagine what features they’ll be unleashing closer to the game’s release. Odds are, it’ll be a doozy.
Mortal Kombat X will come out April 14, 2015 for Xbox One.
