Sometimes developers can take a game too seriously and don’t consider any form of humour. Fortunately I’ve not come across too many games that are like that. In fact there are plenty of games that include quirky little one liners, witty sayings and sometimes even a ‘controversial joke’. This however is not the most entertaining and surprising part of the game, sometimes there is a much funnier suggestion in the form of an Easter Egg in the game.
Below are the top 5 Easter Eggs we’ve encountered and how to find them.
5. Grand Theft IV – Statue of Happiness
Ah, Liberty City, a vast and sprawling city for you cause chaos, explore, race or just play online with friends. They say New York is a living and breathing city and this is quite literally true in this case. The Easter Egg in GTA IV is a beating heart inside the Statue of Happiness (Statue of Liberty), surely not, right? It is indeed true, however it can be a little bit difficult to reach at times. You will need a helicopter and will have to fly toward the statue, once there you will need to angle your helicopter and jump onto the ledge, from here enter one of the doors and you will then have a ladder right in front of you, climb the ladder and then see for yourself.
The below YouTube user demonstrates how this is done (see from 2:55 onwards).[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8JPGO7rAqs&w=560&h=315]
4. The Witcher 2 – Is that you Altair?… Ezio?… Desmond!?
CD Projekt couldn’t help but pay tribute/take a swipe as Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed series, this happens roughly around 30 minutes into the game just after a battle, tucked around the corner is a body laying motionless by bales of hay and a broken cart, for a moment you may just think that you are looking at a dead enemy, then it strikes you that this is the lead character from the Assassins Creed series, we’re still unsure as to whether this is supposed to be Altair from the original Assassins Creed game or Ezio from the second one, either way both are played by Desmond Miles. Once discovered Geralt mutters “Hmm…guess they’ll never learn”. It would appear this leap of faith didn’t quite go to plan, better luck next time.[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_0_HSHSC44&w=560&h=315]
3. Watch Dogs –T-Bones CD Collection
In this high-tech world we’re surprised CD’s still exist, however they do and T-Bone has a fair collection of them on display, but the two covers you see isn’t quite what you’d expect. Aiden Pierce’s hacking friend T-Bone appears to have 2 CD’s in the form of Far Cry and Assassins Creed 2. Copyright infringement you scream! Oh, perhaps not… all three of these games are published by Ubisoft. Now if all three of these games were to cross over it would lead to a very interesting world, hopping across the Chicago skyscrapers being chased by a Lion?
2. Titanfall – Toilet Humour
Not that you get a spare moment to stop and appreciate your surroundings as this fast paced shooter feels like a whirlwind, you’re either jumping here, jumping there, running along this way or running along that way while trying to avoid being crushed by a Titan. In the very rare occasion you do find yourself getting a breather, especially on the Demeter and Relic maps you’ll be able to solve a very old mystery that many of Brits have tried to solve. Yes, the Loch Ness Monster! Well, technically a stuffed toy of the Loch Ness Monster, but all the same, right? The first can be found on the map Relic in a toilet and the second can be found on Demeter on top of some pipes.
Take a look at the following video and see where they are for yourself![youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7amPAI-WpI&w=560&h=315]
1. GTA V – Red Dead by J.Marston
Now I don’t know about you but I’ve never had Franklin down as the reading type, but in his house in the hills he has quite a collection of books on display. These include American History Y by H.Potter… and a book called Red Dead by J.Marston, wait did you say Red Dead!? Yes, it would appear that this book is a reference to the game Red Dead Redemption. Jack Marston did say on the game that he was going to write a book about his Dad and the Wild West. Suddenly I’ve never wanted to read a made up book so badly. It sure would be interesting to see what has happened in the world of Red Dead Redemption, perhaps we’ll find out in the sequel (if there ever is one).
